Mother’s Day Gift Guide & Cinco de Mayo

I miss saying ‘Mom’ out loud. I miss not being able to find that special card for you and then having found it, writing ‘To Mom’ on it for yet another cherished Mother’s Day.

Millie P. Lorenz
The other day something awful happened to me. I woke up and I only had 4 emails. That never happens. I still have a Hotmail account 😳 which means I have been subscribed to a shit ton of blogs and stores for decades! It is my main email and I am embarrassed every time I have to tell someone my email is Pandoramae@hotmail.com ☺️. The thing about email that I didn’t realize, there is a storage limit 😂. Who knew?!? I couldn’t receive any more emails until I got rid of 3.8 GB of emails!! I still had every single email sent to me from BabyCenter telling me how big my baby was getting in my belly… From 2008! I have every email my Mom ever sent me. Ever.

I am a digital packrat!
Recently, I have also begun going back over my posts from the past 10 years. I’ve been working on changing blog hosts for a while now, but I need to categorize over 600 posts! To categorize them, I have to read them lol it’s brought up a lot of memories. I wrote so many stories about HBear and how she dealt with grief, friendships, and activities that she took on with a smile and enthusiasm. In those stories I can see so many different clues as to the butterfly that my little caterpillar would become, now that my Baby is 14 years old. I can also see how behaviours in certain situations turned into bigger issues down the line. Oh, if we only knew then what we know now 💛.

The tales I told of SBean as a baby and a toddler are hilarious… in retrospect! Her little personality has not changed one iota! The only thing that has changed is that she has gotten even more clever lol. Even though 10 year old SBean can push me like no one else in the world can 😂 I still literally laugh out loud reading back at all of her attitude and antics!

Right now I’m going through all the posts from 2014. I was so raw back then. It’s an emotional roller coaster to be honest. It’s reading my journal on the second Mother’s Day without my Mommies. Reading these stories reminds me of things she said to me that over the years had slipped my mind. In some ways it has been cathartic and in someways it has been heartbreaking. It’s hard but it’s also good to see how far I’ve come from that broken spot.

Mother’s Day is coming up! I put together a list of a few tried and true gifts that you can get your Mom, your MIL, your Besty or better yet, suggest to your hubby/kids for YOURSELF! Just a reminder that these are my affiliated Amazon links and if you are looking to buy your Mom, a great gift from Amazon, please use the Amazon search bar at the top of my blog! Just by shopping through my link, I will get the smallest commission that really helps me and my family out! Thank you so much for your continued support!

For Christmas this past year Ninja bought me the most beautiful and soft Silk Pajama Set! Since then, we have bought 3 more sets! It feels so nice on my neurologically messed up skin 😂 and they make me feel like $1 million PLUS they have short sets, nightgowns, and even sets suitable for the winter!

Who knew that pretty measuring spoons could make you feel like a kitchen superstar? I have a rose gold set like these Gold Measuring Cups and Spoons Set and every time I use them, I feel SO fancy! It’s the little things 😀.

When I was a kid, my Mom had a jewel toned can of blue bath salts beside the bathtub with pictures of beautiful mermaids painted on it (at least from what I remember lol). It smelled like glamour and faraway places that I dreamed I would visit. I love baths and I have found a local Kelowna business called Barefoot Venus that makes very similar Bath Salts that take me back to when I was a kid! These bath salts smell like adventure, romance, whimsy and exotic travels. Sit back in a bubble bath and let the experience whisk you away!

My Sis bought me this Cold Brew Maker a few years ago and it has saved me SO much money! I even bought some fancy French Vanilla Syrup and now I make DELICIOUS Ice Brews right from my own home and save my Starbucks rewards for those decadent frappuccinos! 😂
As a house cleaner, I was sceptical of the robot vacuum fad. Until I got one. I call my Lefont Robot Vacuum Rosie and she is my special little helper! While, I’m out she helps me keep Oliver’s dog hair down to a minimum and all the breadcrumbs off my the bottom of my feet! I can start her using the app on my phone and by the time I get home, she is waiting at her docking station to be emptied! Thank you, Rosie! And thank you Dad and J for this amazingly helpful gift!
My CharleswoodBesty bought this Yeti Rambler for me for my birthday this year. Now, I honestly don’t know how I lived without it. This keeps your coffee hot ALL day!!! Fill it up with water and ice cubes and OMG your ice cubes will NOT melt!! It’s expensive but for good reason! My favourite part is the wide handle!

In all honesty I don’t have this Password Book. BUT, I want it *hint hint Ninja* I am absolutely awful with passwords! I always joke that if something heaven forbid should ever happen to Ninja, we would be screwed. Like, I don’t even know our wifi password 😂. I have been using the same passwords FOREVER because every time I change them, I forget what I changed them too! This book COULD be a game changer!

I have been using Norwex Makeup Cloths for years. It is the BEST way to get off stubborn mascara and they are perfect for Dance Moms! I also LOVE the Body Cloths! Since I’ve started using these cloths, my embarrassing adult acne has vanished and my skin feels soft, youthful and clean! Everyone in my house has their own colour and I find it easier to train the kids to wash their face when it is as easy as just wetting a cloth and wiping!

I asked for a Bluetooth Shower Speaker for Christmas a few years ago and this one is still going strong! I love listening to loud music in the shower and this speaker is loud, easy to pair with your Bluetooth and suctions to the wall so no set up worries!

This Crossbody Fanny Pack Sling Bag is another item that I don’t have, but have been coveting for a while! I have similar bags, but I think this one is adorable and would fit my phone and wallet perfectly! Hint, hint Ninja 😂.

Check out How Was Your Week, Honey? Episode #326: Watch It In The Bedroom HEREThis week, we get together on a Sunday to discuss: the neighbours, Canadianity, local NHL’ers, PS5, metal concert, & songs of 2014.
As I’ve been looking back at all my posts over the past decade, I have noticed something, every April/May I post a delicious Mexican dish for Cinco de Mayo that usually falls on or around my Mother’s Day post! I didn’t even realize that I had blog habits until this little “look back” exercise! 😂 I was going to share a new Mexican recipe with you today but instead I’m going to save it and share these colourful, fresh and delicious recipes from all the years past with you instead!
A few interesting facts about these dishes:

  1. The Baked Chicken Chimichangas with Mexi Sauce from 2013 is 1 of my top 10 dishes of all time. I LOVE this meal! Ninja and I can bang out this dinner together in no time and we have made it for guests, our families and for a weeknight meal just for us.
  2. My Citrus Black Bean Salad post from 2014 is my MOST viewed and MOST shared post… EVER.
  3. I hate basa or any fish for the matter but the Mango Avocado Salsa from 2015 is amazing and goes even better with pork (at least I think so anyways lol)!
  4. The 2016 Tex Mex Hash is made with rice!!!
  5. If you like lasagna and tacos you will love the 2017 Chili Tortilla Bake! It is basically a Mexican lasagna! You can use ground beef, turkey or pork in this one!
  6. The 2018 Cheesy Chicken Enchilada Pie is an impressive dish but super easy to make! This one uses rotisserie chicken and a spring form pan. I also have a Cilantro Lime Salad Dressing on this post that has been a go to recipe ever since!
  7. Serve the 2019 Crockpot Taco Chili with tortilla chips or over baked potatoes!
  8. 2 for the price of 1, I share my homemade enchilada sauce recipe with the 2020 Enchilada Nachos.
  9. I like to top my 2021 One Pot Mexican Skillet with cilantro lime tortilla salad toppers!
  10. One pan dinners are my favourite! The 2022 One-Pan Taco Mac is a take on my Mom’s classic hash.

Disfrutar!

This week it was all about sunshine 😀! It was about getting outside, the first corn on the cob of the year, scootering to school, reading on the balcony, weeding, blossoms blooming, pressure washing, cleaning Mommies up and bringing her flowers.

It was also about dance! This weekend was The Vibe competition in Kelowna and HBear’s HipHop group performed! We went to Red Robin’s for dinner (HBear’s choice!!), went for a walk by the marina, and then watched some wonderful dancers! HBear’s group won a platinum and placed 3rd! They had a half circle on stage and while waiting for the adjudicator, they took turn freestyle dancing!! What??? It’s crazy to see the courage and talent that these kids possess. 2 of the kids that dance with HBear even did the improv challenge! HBear took a turn in the half circle and I was brimming with pride 💛.

While we were at dance Ninja and BIL were down the street at the arena watching Megadeath! Sis and SPea were at Guide Camp so they had dinner together and then Ninja stayed the night watching The Jays and The Oilers 😊. The Kids and I got home late. I crawled into bed at midnight to start the Oiler game! We ended the week with cuddles, preparing for the week ahead by meal planing and grocery shopping and SBean created a spa for HBear to give her a relaxing Sunday evening after the bug competition!

In November, the smell of food is different. It is an orange smell. A squash and pumpkin smell. It tastes like cinnamon and can fill up a house in the morning, can pull everyone from bed in a fog. Food is better in November than any other time of the year. – Cynthia Rylant

Infusion Day & Slow Cooker Meals

My morning ritual of showering for a fresh start to my day has progressed to a once-a-week occurrence. Like everything else that my MS affects, less shower time is not by choice. I take sponge baths daily of course, but actual showers are reserved for when I have enough energy for the scary, slip-and-slide thrill ride known as my bathtub’s shower. – Debi Wilson
