Kinda .
I am physically here but mentally???? Not so much.
I am totally and completely out of routine.
PLUS…
The cold of all colds hit our house this week ! Actually it could have been worse but Ninja and I both had it. 2 parents down is bad news!
PLUS…
SBean got it. She is like the Tasmanian Snot Devil when she is sick . Boogers are everywhere and the whining and crying is taken to a level of EPIC proportions. No fun.
Here are some realities of the week:
1. Cougars. OK so here’s what happened… while I was gone to Cochrane for the birth of my beautiful Niece (who I miss soooooo much already) it came to the attention of our School that a Mother Cougar and her 2 cubs were “living” under a deck of a close by house. They had a large kill under there and even with urging from the Conservation Officer, seemed pretty set on staying in their warm hideout.
However, the school knew about the issue and didn’t email the parents until Friday evening. The school also allowed the children out for recess and lunch. Do I think 3 reclusive cats are going to attack a playground full of loud children?
No.
Do I think the parents should have been notified? Yes. Do I think the school should have had an assembly to teach the kids what to do if they see a large predator in their community? Yes. Do I think parents have the right to know what is going on so they could choose whether or not they want their children walking home alone? Yes.

Slow Cooker Chicken Noodle Soup
Adapted from Cooking Classy
3 chicken breasts
5 medium carrots, peeled and thinly chopped
1 1/2 cups onion, finely chopped
1 1/4 cups celery, chopped
4 cloves garlic, pressed
3 tablespoons olive oil
6 cups chicken broth
1 cup water
3/4 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp dried rosemary
1/2 tsp dried sage
1/4 tsp celery salt
2 bay leaves
2 cups uncooked wide egg noodles
1/4 cup parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
To a slow cooker, add chicken (un-cut), diced carrots, onion, celery, and garlic. Drizzle olive oil over top then add in chicken broth, water, thyme, rosemary, celery seed, bay leaves and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook on low heat 6 – 7 hours.
Remove cooked chicken and shred with 2 forks.
On New Year’s Eve we went to Bogners. Our server gave us a GC for our next visit. Ninja asked his parents and Dad to go with him and the Girls and have a “fancy” dinner. The Girls were so excited! They got all dressed up and had a 3 course dinner. Apparently they were very well behaved.
Christmas came a bit late at our house as my Bro sent his presents by Greyhound and I got the message late. I thought the message was a telemarketer so I didn’t listen… turns out it was a big box of presents waiting for us at the bus depot. Like usual they spoiled the Girls with super cool gifts. They really enjoyed making a fort with their new fort kit!
The Girls spent some time at Grandma and Grandpa’s playing cards and doing puzzles.
HBear’s class worked on their weekly challenge and her teacher sent me pictures. This was group work with KISUBesty and PSBesty.
SBean practiced her “talents”
and her skating!
Then there was that time Ninja took SBean to the pool but it was closed due to fouling…
I had an appointment in Kelowna the day after I got back so while I was doing that Ninja took SBean for a haircut. It is tough work being a Princess.
First thing Saturday morning HBear and I were at the pool for her Mini Meet. I was timekeeping so I barely got to see her but every time she came up to me with a ribbon she was gaining ear to ear so I guess it was a good time!
SBean was back on the ice for her next lesson and she was super happy to see HBear and I make an appearance after the mini meet.
After 4 days of a fever and cold, she finally started feeling better and the fever broke. I took this as a good sign and agreed to kindergarten orientation AKA Ready, Set, Learn. First of all, there was 35 kids there and only 5 of them were girls ! Yikes, SBean is in for an interesting elementary school experience. Also, she had the BIGGEST green boog hanging out of her nose. The other Moms were looking at me like I was the Devil
! I could see it in their eyes, the question, “why did you bring your sick kid? Keep her away!”
No problem because half way through and she was screaming that her ear hurt and tugging on her lobe. SBesty gave me some advice and then I whisked her out of there. She was screaming so much I decided to call the Dr. They told me to come in right away. She had an ear infection. I felt terrible! How did I not know? She didn’t pull at her ear or complain about her ear once! After I filled her prescriptions and got HBear to Gifted, we went home for some cuddles.
After HotLunch was the BIG Spelling Bee. OK so a few things on this… Not gonna lie, I wasn’t too keen on this Spelling Bee when HBear first told me about it. For the past 3 weeks it has kept her up at night worrying. I am happy she wanted to try but I believe spelling cannot be taught it is just memorization and attention to detail. You work so hard to protect your Kids and then they go and sign up to get up in front of the whole school and spell ridiculous words like abolitionist! WTF? She is 8! She signed up with her 3 Besties and another good friend.
At least she is in the group of Girls that are interested in things like Spelling Bees .
SBean hung out with her MusicBesty while their Sisters kicked some spelling ass!
The Girl’s played an intense game of Jenga,
and we celebrated Chinese New Year with a picnic of Hoison Garlic Pork Noodles and The NHL All Star Skills Competition!
She did so great! She was in 5 events, 25m Freestyle, 25m Backstroke, 25m Butterfly, 25m Breaststroke and the 200m Relay.
She came in 2nd overall in the Backstroke and 5th overall in the Butterfly !!
So impressed with her. The best part was that she improved every single event, some by more than 10 seconds! Her confidence is high and she is having fun, what more could I ask for?
