Basa with Mango Avocado Salsa

You take the good, you take the bad,
You take them both and there you have
The facts of life, the facts of life.

Facts of Life Theme Song

Random thoughts…

1. Some days I find myself sounding like Mrs. Garrett from the facts of life, “Girls, girls, girls!”

2. The other day HBear said “Mommy your Daddy is funny” LOL

3. Something happened to me the other day that has never happened before but terrified the living shit out of me.

My phone froze.

I felt helpless. I felt completely alone in the world. I felt absolutely lost.

My left hand began to twitch with the thought of never holding it ever again.

I wanted to call somebody I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs “help!”

It was late so I plugged it in and hoped in the morning it would turn out to be nothing but a nightmare.

The next morning I woke up I grabbed my phone and it was still frozen.

Hot tears sprung to my eyes. I called for Ninja to somehow make it better.. and he did!

Saved!

4. HBear has a habit.

She sucks her right index and middle finger. I would actually think that this is my fault, that I breastfed her too long, if I didn’t see her in an ultrasound sucking her fingers in the womb!

Seriously she’s hard-core.

We have tried everything! We have tried bandaids, we have tried the yucky tasting nail polish, punishments, rewards, and we have even tried reasoning LOL

She said that she would pick a date and she would stop and she did for a while LOL I let her get away with it because I knew she needed her comfort after Mom died and then again after Aaron. The dentist told us we needed to do something and I held off. Ninja and I agreed that if she was still sucking when her first tooth fell out we would take the next step.

The other day we went to the orthodontist where I found out that the appliance that they want to put in her mouth is actually called a habit appliance LOL

I also found out that my six-year-old has $940 habit!

When we got into the van the lecture began LOL “See, I told you what would happen if you didn’t stop sucking your fingers and now look Mommy and Daddy have to pay almost $1000!”

“I’m sorry Mommy. If you would like I will pay half. You can take it out of my piggy bank.”

Bless her little grubby finger sucking heart.

HBear won an award for Excellence in Commitment to Learning 🙂

5. DEREK?!?!?!?! WTF?!?!?! Did that really happen? And when I say really, I mean in total fake land of TV, of course 🙂

6. I want to start a book club.

I have asked everyone I know and everybody laughs and says “good idea” but I can’t get anyone to commit lol. So, I think I am going to start a HB & SB Book Club 🙂

I will pick a book (or take suggestions) and at the end of the month I will post a review and my thoughts. If you have time you can read it too. You don’t have to read every book, every month but if it interests you, read it! I would love comments and feedback, in fact I will even try to pick controversial books to get a discussion going!!!

Who… Me?

lol

For May, I am going to read Wild by Cheryl Strayed.

I hope you join me in The HoneyBears & SydneyBeans Book Club. It is sure to be a wickedly fantastic opportunity to read some great books just for the sake of reading a great book!

and yes you may drink as much wine as you like 🙂

7. The Edmonton Oilers have been very busy the past 2 weeks. They scored the first round draft pick and they let their upper management go.

They let Craig MacTavish go.

I really, really, really like MacT. I am sad to see him go but hope that there is nothing but blue skies ahead for my favorite team.

With that being said… I am so very proud of the Winnipeg Jets and the classiest fans on Earth!

I am not worried about their early exit from the 2015 playoffs. It was a lesson to be learned and I am just happy that they brought the NHL Playoffs back to my hometown!

Watch out for them next year… they got a taste and now the other teams should be scared 🙂

8. AS IF Allison Sweeney didn’t win the best actress award for her portrayal of Samantha Brady on the long running soap, Days of Our Lives.

OMG did I just say that?

Whatever, I have been watching it for 36 years. Haters gonna Hate.

HBear’s Besty’s Birthday Party

9. The other day was early dismissal. I remember early dismissal was 2:45 when I was a kid… now it’s 12:15???? Seriously, I don’t know BC kids will be able to handle real life. A work day that is actually 8 hours. SHOCKER!!!

Anyways, some of the Moms suggested a picnic on the school playground and it turned out so well!

That’s right, she has a ice cream sandwich in 1 hand and a TimBit in the other! LOL

I am lucky that we have an amazing group of Moms and Dads at our school that do little things like have a picnic just because 🙂

After the picnic the kids took us inside to their student led conferences. HBear read to us, showed us her math work and showed us around her classroom. So proud of her 🙂

10. I’m from Canada. I’m from Manitoba. I’m from Winnipeg. I’m from St James. I’m from Assiniboia West. I’m from St Charles.

That’s right, there are my roots.

Lately I’ve read about so many deaths of people that grew up around me, were my friends… St Jamesers.

We stick together.

I am saddened by how many people I know have committed suicide over the past few years. This is an issue. A REAL issue. Please, if you know someone suffering from depression or any other type of mental illness, be there for them. Listen to them.

Sometimes it’s the words they don’t say… that say the most.

Too many good people are losing the battle and it is so very, very sad.

The other day I made this yummy and fresh dinner! Delicious and perfect for the beautiful spring weather that is coming… I hope! 🙂

November Meal Plan

In November, the smell of food is different. It is an orange smell. A squash and pumpkin smell. It tastes like cinnamon and can fill up a house in the morning, can pull everyone from bed in a fog. Food is better in November than any other time of the year. – Cynthia Rylant

Infusion Day & Slow Cooker Meals

My morning ritual of showering for a fresh start to my day has progressed to a once-a-week occurrence. Like everything else that my MS affects, less shower time is not by choice. I take sponge baths daily of course, but actual showers are reserved for when I have enough energy for the scary, slip-and-slide thrill ride known as my bathtub’s shower. – Debi Wilson
